ABOUT

Jose Shorty Torres may be known for his height, but what the 5’4” Mexican-Puerto Rican from Chicago lacks in stature shines through in heart and motivation. He has taken part in both team and single-person sports for most of his life. He is most passionate and experienced in Mixed Martial Arts (MMA). His journey began at the early age of 4 when he enrolled in Shotokan Karate. After 12 years of training, Shorty slowly transitioned into MMA. At the age of 16, he was perfecting his skills at Combat-Do with the legendary hall of fame Judo and Jiu-Jitsu trainer, Master Bob Schirmer, who taught him the arts of Judo, Jiu-Jitsu, Jeet-Kune-Do, Boxing, Kickboxing, Pankration, San Shou, Muay Thai, K1, Wrestling and most of all, mental fortitude.

Currently, Shorty is a Black belt rank in both the Combat-Do (Judo/Jiu-Jitsu) training system and Shotokan Karate. He is a graduate of NCAA Division II McKendree University where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Leadership and Sports and Exercise Science. Shorty received a full ride to the school through his wrestling and academic achievements at Triton College becoming a wrestling ALL-American and entering Phi Beta Kappa (Natiional Honors Society). His amateur MMA record was 25-1 with 25 straight wins and he has been pronounced the most decorated amateur MMA fighter in the world by many organizations after becoming the first ever to win back to back IMMAF (International Mixed Martial Arts) world titles. His list of accomplishments from local, national, amateur, and professional world titles continues to this day to grow.
